About February’s Seminar:
Our speakers for February’s Wildcatalyst seminar are Sharyn Potter and Jane Stapleton, co-founders of Soteria Solutions, UNH’s first women-run spin out. Soteria Solutions is a non-profit that offers proven solutions to reduce sexual and interpersonal violence and harassment.
Soteria Solutions is a spin out of UNH’s Prevention Innovation Research Center (PIRC), which is internationally recognized for its collaborative research and community engagement focusing on sexual and relationship violence and stalking prevention and response. Sharyn, who is a Professor of Sociology at UNH, serves as Soteria’s co-founder and VP of research, and Jane serves as Soteria’s co-founder and president. They both still hold leadership positions within PIRC. Over the past year, they’ve been working hard with their team to launch Soteria Solutions and expand upon PIRC’s academic work solving one of society’s biggest challenges: building safe, respectful environments within workplaces and schools.
In this seminar, Sharyn and Jane will share their advice for running and growing a research and innovation-based start-up, and will talk about how they balance and separate their commercial and academic work. They will also share their thoughts about the unique challenges that women founders face, and discuss their thoughts on what resources are needed for the next generation of female innovators.
